A gift and a cook

Look what my wife gifted me before she left for India….

My racket

A Wilson tennis racket!!!! That too the one that Roger Federer uses. Well, not the exact same racket he uses but with the same measurements, built and specifications.

I’ve been wanting one for ages. And now I have it. Thanks a lot, dear. This is one of my best gifts ever 🙂

OK, so that brings me to another point. My wife and kiddo have gone to India for their vacation. I will be traveling later this month, hopefully. Its not been easy at home without them. In my wife, I miss my friend. In my kiddo, I miss my toy. But alas, I was never going to get a long leave from work. But that does not mean she gets to spend lesser time at her home coz of me. So, I sent her a month in advance.

And that brings me to the next round of snaps on this post. Without wifey around, I’ve been trying my hand at cooking. Though I have my mom, sis and sis-in-laws around, I like to try out stuff every now and then. And yesterday, was one such day. Dietary requirements meant I was supposed to have a few vegetables (cooked or uncooked) for lunch. I took matters in my own hands. Hunted down a recipe for ‘Mix Veg Stew’ and this was the outcome:

mix veg stew

It turned out excellent. Sweetish and tangy. With lots of capsicum, cauliflower, potatoes and tomatoes. Exactly as per the reciepe. Though I was supposed to add mushrooms and brown sugar but didn’t have any. The picture does not do justice to the taste. In the end, I had a hearty meal. Ofcourse, I did need mom’s help in chopping onions and tomatoes. But the rest, my creation! 🙂

Cheers.

    1. Thanksss 🙂 Yes, it was delicious. And I picked up the recipe from a weekly magazine we get in this part of the world.

Well yes, I did cook during her pregnancy but only small things. This was actually my first venture in something more substantial. Like a full fledged dish.

  6. The Mix Veg Stew looks great! So do your brand new gifts 🙂 Congratulations for both!

Taking pictures, blogging regularly, playing tennis and trying recipes are great for keeping busy while they are away!
You must have got natural talent, because when I had first tried recipes I made all kind of inedible mess for a while, and your first recipe turned out to be good?!

    1. Thanks IHM.

Taking pics, blogging, tennis and recipes – lol looks like I am on a vacation!!! 😀

I’ve been in and out of the kitchen quite a bit. I love eating so invariably I love every aspect of it which obviously includes the cooking ! 🙂

Natural talent..hmm…lets not get too modest here now. Not every one has it, you see. Some are born gifted 😉 The rest? Well, keep trying!! 😀

  7. okay Masood, enough of sweet comments for this one.
are you calling Ibu your toy? thats not fair! *tara is not smiling*

& the gift, it certifies that wives are GENERALLY sweet/great/thoughtful etc etc. Just pick up the clue and start playing/play regularly.. maybe she wants to see you fit and fine in the month’s time…

finally the cooking. you changed your diet plan from all non veg to something else? hmm good, I say. and you are experimenting in the kitchen – thats wow! i like this kind of husbands *tara isn’t smiling still* but the best thing would be if you do this when Iram is back or better still, insist and do this at ur in-laws place..

Hope you enjoy the ‘me time’ you hv got now *wink wink*

    1. acha? not smiling. Phew. How about not smiling with your mouth closed? That way you’d not be speaking as well 😀

Maybe I am already fit and fine. And that’s why the racket as a gift for my fitness, hardwork and dedicated. And for being a great hubby 😉

Well, I plan to continue doing this. Lets see how it works out.

Btw, someone else is also enjoying the “me-time” in South Africa. And boy, what a place!! Ever heard the rule – “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”? In his case, its pretty easy to implement this rule. Only the country is different 😀

  8. he he, turn this into a recipie blog 🙂

And even I cook but only when my wife isn’t near. Or else she’d go crazy commenting on the way I cook. The end product obviously turns out nice 🙂

Hope you’re enjoying bachelorhood 😉 and not wasting it cooking veg. stew !

    1. Oh please!!! I have a hard time digesting recipes posted on normal blogs.

You know, we men are pretty good cooks when we get down to it. But are zimbly badnaam. Infact, the best chefs in the world are all men 😉

hehe…the stew was the first day after she left 😉

  9. Honestly,Masood,I didnt even care how the veg stew looked..I kept scrolling up to see the racket and the name ‘Roger Federer’ imprinted on it! 🙂

Your wife is a darling, isnt she? What a wonderful gift to give to a tennis-crazy husband! How very thoughtful of her!

So,are you going use the racket or just safeguard it as a souvenir?

    1. Ofcourse me going to use it. I’ve already smashed a painting in the living room. The power socket on the wall is also in pieces. So I am putting it to good use 😉

And yes, she is a darling. She knew how badly I wanted a racket and that too with Federer’s specs 🙂 Surely you know how elated I am. One Federer fan to another.

  10. Thats a great gift bro… 🙂 tennis racket… Hope you find some courts there… Here its worse 😦 and you turned into cook.. So nice… I never tried that 😦

    1. Yes, we do have but not very accessible. Need membership and stuff. lets see. Maybe on weekends I can swing a bit.

Try out cooking. It is pretty interesting 🙂

  11. Assalams Masood

That’s a wonderful gift and a very sumptous looking plate, I am amazed 🙂

I totally believe in distances makes the heart grow fonder, you will see that now and me after experiencing it again and again going to experience it again….(I am experimenting on HOW MUCH FONDER can one get hahaha) I mean am flying to India tonite for couple of weeks to see my ma and pa.

      Eid Mubarak in advance 🙂

  12. Wow! What a thoughtful wife, Masood 🙂 See- she thought of everything – a gift for you and a gift for herself – a husband who learnt how to cook 😉

That gives me an idea for an anniversary gift to my husband 🙂 Acc to him, he cooks very well when I am not around.

That stew looks totally yummy! So when are you starting the cookery section in your blog ?

    1. LOL Sheesh…I got tricked into it… 😉
